I understand that you can make contributions in 2012 for 2011; but I cannot find that you can establish the HSA account with a financial institution after 12/31/2011 and still have the option to make 2011 deductible contributions. Can an individual open an HSA account after 12/31/2011 but before April 15, 2012 to be able to make a deductible contribution for the 2011 tax return.

I understand that you can make contributions in 2012 for 2011; but I cannot find that you can establish the HSA account with a financial institution after 12/31/2011 and still have the option to make 2011 deductible contributions.
