Trouble Qualifying for Insurance? Try Guaranteed Issue Health Insurance

The Louisiana Health Plan offers several options for Louisiana citizens who cannot obtain health insurance coverage because of pre-existing conditions.
1st Option - NEW PCIP Guaranteed Issue Plan
Many people who have been unable to get health insurance can now get coverage through the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP), created under the Affordable Care Act. PCIP is provided through the US Department of Health and Human Services and administered by GEHA.
2nd Option – LA Health Plan HIPAA Plan
There is no pre-existing condition exclusion for eligible enrollees in the HIPAA Plan.
- Must apply before or within 63 days of the last day of coverage.
- Must have a minimum of 18 months of “Creditable Coverage”.
- Must elect and exhaust all COBRA or continuation benefits.
- Most recent coverage must have been under a group plan.
3rd Option – LA Health Plan High Risk Plan
There is a 6-month pre-existing condition exclusion waiting period in the high risk pool, including prescription drugs.
